Audio-assisted reading is an activity where students read aloud a text (book, digital content, transcription) while listening to an audio recording of the text from a fluent speaker. As confidence and reading skills develop, students read the same text without the assistance of the audio recording. AAR is a flexible activity that can be used across content areas, and it's been used to help English learners to improve their language skills.

Hi, my name's Leia ;)

I'm originally from Brazil, but I've been living in the United States for 10 years now.

English has been part of my daily life since then, but it was only a few years ago that I started studying the language very consistently, and it wasn't an easy journey to overcome my fear of speaking, my lack of confidence, and to find my voice in English. With the help of an inspiring teacher, and an amazing community, I was able to keep going on with my studies.

After gradually increasing my confidence, I decided to host online sessions for international English learners as part of my learning process, and to give back to the community as much as possible of what I had learned so far and to help others in their journey as well.. Even though I was nervous at the start, I embraced the challenge.

As I was gaining experience as a host of Speaking Clubs, I decided to try an activity that I found very helpful for supporting students' learning. An activity that helps with comprehension, and enables them to hear the tone and pace of a fluent speaker.. Since then, I've been holding free Audio Assisted Reading sessions, and I've witnessed the benefits it brings to students' reading and comprehension.

I started "Audio-assisted Reading for English Practice" with the goal of offering readers a glimpse into my research on AAR and into my own experience using it, in order to help international English learners improve their skills.
